Christopher is a child with Aspergers and is introverted which means he does not socialize very much. His likes and good qualities are that he enjoys math and astronomy along with the color red but most of all can not tell a lie. His dislikes and flaws are pretty numerous: the color yellow, socializing with people he does not know well, he does not understand people's emotions and can not stand being touched. He only has a close relationship with Siobhan and his father, besides that he does not communicate for the most part.
When Christopher discovers Wellington dead he says “I like dogs”(Haddon 3). This is a perfect example of Christopher's voice, it is a straight to the point statement but it is sort of off track when he is writing. Another great quote that portrays Christopher is when he says “It was 1:12 a.m. when father arrived”(Haddon 16). Christopher has an obsession with time and exactness thus he felt a need to write this down so it was “perfect”. Most narrators are unreliable but I think it could be argued that Christopher is a reliable author because he actually can not tell a lie.

ReplyDeleteChristopher is a little bit different, he is very knowledgeable, strong willed, and does not like to be touched. He communicates with two other characters, his father, and Siobhan (one of his teachers). “I know every countries in the world and their capital cities, and every prime number up to 7,057.”(Haddon 2), This shows that he is smart and knows what he is doing. “The policeman took hold of my arm and lifted me onto my feet, I didn’t like him touching me like this. And this is when I hit him”(Haddon 8). This show how even though he knew it was wrong to hit someone he hates being touched more.
ReplyDeleteHe never lies and his father is always looking out for him. “I want to see my son!”(Haddon 16). This shows that his father sees him and knows that he is in trouble and trying to help him. Christopher is critical thinker because he knows what he is talking about. He talks plainly and defines words people might not know. He tells the book in first person I think that he is a reliable source because he is logical and tells things the way it happened.
Christopher is a very difficult person to understand. He himself does not understand what some things are. For example, he can tell the difference between a sad face and a smiley face, but he cannot tell the difference between an angry, worried, or annoyed face. “I kept the piece of paper in my pocket and took it out when I didn't understand what someone was saying” (Haddon 3) Christopher is a person to think things through and if he has a good reason for doing something no matter how bad it is, he will do it. He is a very interesting person. He does not like the color yellow, or anything with that color in it. He really dislikes talking to new people, he tends to avoid strangers and just hangout with the people that he knows he can trust. “This will not be a funny joke. I cannot tell jokes because I do not understand them” (Haddon 8)
ReplyDeleteI think that Christopher is a reliable narrator because he is an honest person and he always does what he thinks is right. Even when he is told to not do something, he always finds a way to talk his way out of it.Though he is young and may not be fully matured, I feel like he knows more than the average teenager his age. From taking the investigation of the dog Wellington into his own hands, to taking a risk and talking to strangers which is one of the things that he hates.

ReplyDeleteChristopher Boone is a 15 year old boy with Asperger Syndrome. He’s brilliant and totally clueless at the same time. He’s unaware of things that most people would see. He is totally smart in math and science. He likes the color red and red cars. Christopher likes the police, being a detective, astronauts, animals, and prime numbers. He dislikes jokes, people yelling at him, the colors brown and yellow, being touched, and metaphors. Haddon writes, “I didn’t like him touching me like this”(8). Christopher hates being touched like the cop was doing to him here. Christopher gets very uncomfortable and therefore hits him. He is very sensitive.
Christopher has several relationships with other characters in this book. His relationship with his father is very straightforward. He sees his dad everyday and his dad gets him out of trouble all of the time. The father loves him very much. “And father said, ‘Christopher, do you understand that I love you?”(Haddon 87). The father really wants Christopher to know that he truly does care for him and just wants to protect him even though that’s not what Christopher thinks. His relationship with Mrs. Shear’s is non-existent in the book right now. He remembers her coming over all the time to cook meals and to play with him. He has just formed a new relationship with Mrs. Alexander, his neighbor. He does not trust her yet but finds out information from her about his mother. His most trusting relationship in this book is with Siobhan. She is his primary teacher at school. They have a very honest and trusting relationship. “...and the next morning I took it into school so that Siobhan could read it and tell me if I had made mistakes with the spelling and the grammar”(Haddon 74). Christopher trusts her enough to read the book he wrote. He knows that she supports him and is trying to look out for him.
Christopher Boone is a reliable author for many reasons. He is young, but very logical. He explains everything he sees, feels, hears, or thinks. He knows what’s going on around him and has many smart observations. He does not tell lies which makes his writings very truthful. He is very honest. Even when he is told to not do something, he does it anyway honestly.
Christopher is a very curious and adventurous kid. He has aspergers syndrome, which is a mild case of autism. He has challenges that a lot of other kids do not, but can find amazing ways to overcome these obstacles. He has a personality that you might not expect from one with such a challenging life. Years ago, his mom had an affair, and parents split. He loves animals, and when he finds the dog laying in the yard with a garden fork in its side, he wanted so badly to investigate why it happened and who did it, though the police did not want him investigating. When the police came and asked him what happened and why he was holding the dog, Christopher answered “I like dogs” (7).
ReplyDeleteChristopher has a normal way of getting along with people, but there are sometimes where he could be a little excessive with his anger at someone. His parents he gets along well with. But in the incident with the dog, when the cops came to investigate the killing of the dog, the cop questioned Christopher, and he got overwhelmed with all the questions and with how fast the officer was asking. The cop then grabbed Christopher and picked him up off the ground in a sort of rough way, and Christopher didn’t like that the cop touched him, so Christopher punched the cop. “The policeman took hold of my arm and lifted me onto my feet. I didn’t like him touching me like this. And this is when I hit him.” (Christopher 8) After this, christopher was arrested for assaulting an officer and taken downtown.
Christopher is a fifteen year old child with Asperger’s syndrome. He does not like being touched and hates the color yellow and brown. Christopher does not go to a regular school, instead, he goes to a special school where the teachers are trained to help him better. When Christopher is on his way to school he watches the cars that go by him and if he sees four red cars in a row then he knows it will be a very good day but if he sees four yellow cars in a row then he sits in the corner and does not talk to anyone. “4 yellow cars in a row made it a black day chich is a day when I don’t speak to anyone and sit on my own reading my books and don’t eat my lunch and take no risks”(24). Christopher does not have a very good relationship with his dad. Partly because he does not listen very well. When Christopher does not listen to his father at the end of chapter 127, his dad gets very because he went against what he told him and went into private matters he was not supposed to. “What else did I say Christopher? Not to stick your nose into other people’s business (127).
ReplyDeleteI do not think Christopher is a reliable narrator because he always gets off track of what he was talking about in the previous paraph and it is hard to follow. He also has asperger’s so it may affect his narrator ability. He did write the book so that is a little more reliable than most.

ReplyDeleteChristopher Boone is a unique young boy that has asperger's syndrome. He is brilliant, sweet, sensitive and creative. On the other hand he is also clueless, sour and insensitive. Christopher is one of the smartest kids in his school and he is the only one to ever take an A Math class. He never likes to disappoint anyone and always wants people to like him. He rarely likes being touched by anyone even his father and closests friends. “The policeman took hold of my arm and lifted me onto my feet. I didn’t like him touching me like this. And this is when I hit him”(Haddon 8). Even when a police officer touched him he didn’t like it and he hit him. He is also creative because he is writing his own book about his detective skills and experiences.
Some people describe Christopher as difficult or hard to deal with because of his quirks and differences. He likes the color red but not the colors yellow and brown. Because of this every-time he sees red cars in a row when he is going to school that means a good day and when he sees yellow cars in a row that means that it is a bad day. Christopher is clueless because he has been sheltered for most of his life because of his father. His mother was cheating on his father and she left one day but his dad kept the truth from him for a long time before he finally found out.
I feel that Christopher is a reliable narrator because he almost always tells the truth and is to innocent and sweet to not be reliable. He does have asperger’s syndrome but that doesn’t necessarily mean that he is an unreliable narrator because he understands, more than most people, that lying is a bad thing to do. Chris alsos shows us a little bit about what other people might be thinking. An example would be when he is playing detective he has to think about all of the information and not just his own.

Christopher Boone a fifteen old is anything but normal. He is crazy smart, knows all the countries and capitals of the world and every prime number up to 7,057. However he is clueless, unaware of the simple understandings around him. He dislikes when people make fun of him but instead of acting appropriately he lashes out on those people. He loves dogs and often would play with Wellington his neighbor Mrs. Shears dog. But when Christopher found out that Wellington died, Christopher was quick to solve the mystery about the dog’s suspicious death.
Christopher’s mother who died a few years earlier, left Christopher with just his father to watch over him. His dad often yells at him leaving Christopher angry and upset. He hates being yelled at which his father attempts to do when trying to reassure his son but it fails. Once Christopher had an encounter with the police both were trying to solve the death of Wellington but the policeman started to investigate Christopher. “I didn’t like him touching me like this. And this is when I hit him”(8). This is an example of Christopher lashing out when he does not get his way. Christopher is also very honest and straightforward.
He is mind set and determined to be right especially about dogs. “I thought for a little and I said, “I am going to find out who killed Wellington”(20). In the mystery of Wellington, Christopher won’t stop solving the missing case. His dad however is not pleased by his son instead shouts and lashes out on Christopher. He just wants his son to stay safe but does not quite know how to express his feelings toward him. Christopher is a reliable narrator because by him having autism he does not lie. He tells the truth no matter the consequence of his actions. His autism diagnosis shows how truthful he is and how he is an open book.
Christopher is a wired boy who is 15 years old. He hates color yellow, he dislike people to touch him. He dislike people make fun with him, because he doesn't understand what is the meaning behind the jokes, and he dislike to talk with people because he can barely understand what emotion they are in, "I kept the piece of paper in my pocket and took it out when I didn't understand what someone was saying" (Haddon 3), because sometime he can't figure out when people saying same words what mood are they saying . ReplyDeleteHe doesn't like to talk to other people because he always can't figure put what are other people saying, and they always like to dream about something won't really exist. But he do loves Siobhan, "Siobhan understand. When she tells me not to do something she tells me exactly it is that I am not allowed to do" (Haddon 29), he tells Siobhan everything and she always give him right direction for me to do and always understand what exactly he is talking. But his relationship with his father is not that good, he do know his father loves him, but his father do not really understand about him, he won't let Christopher to found out what really happen to Wellington, and he seem lie to Christopher that his mother is already died.
But Christopher never tell lies, so he is a reliable narrator, he always tell the truth and never say anything is not basic on truth or data.
Christopher John Francis Boone is a fifteen-year-old boy who is gifted mathematically but struggles social acceptance and understanding as a result of asperger syndrome. Christopher likes to organize events through analyzation and understanding situations. In addition, he likes dog so he felt deep sadness and tries to find a criminal who killed Wellington.

The reason why he do not prefer them is because he thinks they are all lie which Christopher cannot do and do not make sense oftenly “I think it should be called a lie because a pig is not like a day and people do not have skeletons in their cupboards. And when I try and make a picture of the phrase in my head it just confuses me because imagining an apple in someone’s eye doesn’t have anything to do with liking someone a lot and it makes you forget what the person was talking about” (Haddon 15). (This quotation reveals his characteristic that he does not like lies which make him confuse and interrupt him to understand the situation or conversation.)
Likewise, he doesn’t like the novels which is consisted of lies and metaphors.
Christopher dislikes to stay with strangers and doubt them easily but talk relatively more with people whom Christopher is familiar with, like Siobhan. Similarly, he does not believe in heaven and hell because he thinks there are not proper evidence for their existence “But when Mother died she didn’t go to heaven because heaven doesn’t exist” (Haddon 32). (This quotation reveals his characteristic that he does not believe which is not proved properly.)
I think he is a reliable narrator because he always tells the story directly with only truths because he doesn’t like metaphors and lies. These characteristics give more belief and make the readers to understand the story even easier.
Christopher Boone is a very complicated character. He is very smart, he is really good at math, he knows every prime number up to 7,057. He also knows all the counties in the world and their capitals. However, he is beyond clueless at social cues. At the beginning of the book it shows Christopher meeting his teacher, Siobhan, showing him pictures of emotions and telling the corresponding name of the emotion.
ReplyDeleteChristophers voice in the book sounds insensitive and dull. When Mrs. Shears runs up to Christopher at the beginning of the book, Christopher says “ I looked up and saw Mrs. Shears running toward me from her patio. She was wearing pajamas and a housecoat. Her toenails were painted bright pink and she has no shoes on (haddon 4)”. Instead of noticing her expression or how she was feeling he saw her clothes and her toenails. This is also seen when Christopher is interviewed by the police, “‘Why were you holding the dog?’ he asked again. ‘I like dogs,’ I said. ‘Did you kill the dog?’ he asked. I said ‘I did not kill the dog.’ ‘Is this your fork?’ he asked. I said, ‘no’”(haddon 7). This conversation just seems dull and emotionless.
I do not think he is a reliable narrator because no one can truly describe their point of view to others because the words that someone could use mean different things to all of us and being that no one else can see your point of view nor can they experience it it makes it impossible to relay the experience in words.

He does have asperger’s syndrome but that doesn’t necessarily mean that he is an unreliable narrator because he understands, more than most people, that lying is a bad thing to do. Even when he is told to not do something, he always finds a way to talk his way out of it.Though he is young and may not be fully matured, I feel like he knows more than the average teenager his age. In the book The Curious Incident of The Dog in The Night-Time, the main character Christopher Boone and also the narrator is different than most “normal” people. Christopher was diagnosed with aspergers can not communicate and interact with other characters but is more logical and better at mathematics. Christopher does not like the color yellow, people touching him, metaphors or anything else a “normal” person would like but instead Christopher likes prime numbers, red cars and can memorize countries and their capital. “Chapters in books are usually given the cardinal numbers 1,2,3,4… But I have decided to give my chapters prime number 2,3,5,7,11 and so on because I like prim number”(Hadden 11). This is a great example of Christopher being different than everyone else and putting his own twist on it that no one else would. Christopher is very logical but some things are hard for him to recognize like emotions.
Christopher can not distinguish people’s emotions from one emotions to the other, he has a hard time staying in conversations with people when they ask him a lot of questions or too much information at once. The only really person that knows him really well is his father, and his father how made symbols and other interaction with Christopher that Christopher knows and wont be afraid. “I held up my left hand and spread my fingers out in a fan and we made our fingers and thumbs touch each other. We do this because sometimes Father wants to give me a hug, but I do not like hugging people so we do this instead, and it means that he loves me”(Hadden 16). This is a good example that his father is the only truly person that knows Christopher as he is and knows how to love him.
Christopher Boone is a reliable narrator because he wont tell lies and does not like when people tell lies. Also Christopher is very logical so he would be able to solve who killed the dog and leave out no details.

Christopher is the main character in the book The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time. Christopher has a mild form of autism which causes him not to be able to reason with others. Christopher can not empamaize with others he can not understand what or how others are feeling. He does not like social interaction with others. Christopher is a person who would much rather read a book in his room. Christopher takes pride in his strengths which are math and he has a great memory.
There are many quotes in the book that demonstrate and show who Christopher is. One quote is, “I think I would make a very good astronaut. To be a good astronaut you have to be intelligent and I’m intelligent”(83). This is an important quote that demonstrates Christopher voice. This quote releves that he is very proud of his intelligence. Another quote is, “This is a murder mystery”(6). When Christopher said this the reader could tell how he would be telling the book. Christopher is a reliable narrator because the reader can tell by the way he writes.

I think he is a reliable narrator because he is very logical and direct. He says he can never tell a lie. And so far he has not told I lie there is no reason to to believe what he is saying. But there's always some else's point of view when it comes to writing books.
Christopher is an odd fifteen year-old boy with aspergers that loves math and physics. He doesn’t like the colors yellow and brown and hates being touched by anybody. Christopher likes the police and doctors because of their organized order of how to do things and their uniformes. He does not speak much unless he is asked a question, then he will answer with a straightforward and honest answer. “I didn’t reply to this either because Mrs. Alexander was doing what is called chating, where people say things to each other which aren’t questions and answers and aren’t connected” (Haddon 40). This quote shows how he did not like making small talk and just liked to have everything be straight to the point in a question and answer format. This made him awkward around the other characters in this book.
ReplyDeleteA lot of other characters did not like him for how he acted, especially because he did not know how to act in social situations. When he speaks to people, he sometimes says things that would be rude to say normally, and most of the time he gets in trouble for it. His father has a hard time dealing with him and can get mad if he does not listen and obey what he tells him to do. As haddon says, “but Siobhan said we have to use those words because people used to call children like the children at school spaz and crip and mong, which were nasty words” (44). This quote shows how people treated him and how he trusts Siobhan with getting information. Because of his “disability”, Christopher is seen as being unreliable because of how he thinks.
I think that Christopher is a reliable narrator because of his inability to lie and that he is an innocent boy. People only think that because he has aspergers, and they see that as a disability. But i see it as making him even more reliable because he can only think in patterns and can remember everything well.

ReplyDeleteChristopher is a boy born with Asperger Syndrome. In his 15 years of life, he never felt comfortable with people yelling at him or touch him and he is not good with strangers. “It takes me a long time to get used to people I do not know. For example, when there is a new member of staff at school I do not talk to them for weeks and weeks. I just watch them until I know that they are safe. Then I ask them question about themselves” (Haddon 67). Furthermore, Christopher has a good memory and understanding of math and physics which he loves to do.Also, he is a kid that likes straight forward answers and statements. The color red is his favorite, in opposite to yellow which is a color he absolutely dislikes. Haddon write, “4 red cars in a row made it a good day, and 3 red cars in a row made it a quit good day, and 5 red cars in a row made it a super good day and 4 yellow cars in a row made it a black day, which is a day when I don’t speak to anyone and sit on my own reading books and don’t eat my lunch and take no risks” (47). The colors influence his life pretty much every day. Plus, his loves for animals stands out in the book.
Christopher does not show his love due a hug or warm words, he shows it with trusting people and feeling comfortable being near them, such as Siobhan, one of his teachers. He lost his mother at a young age and since that they he is living with his father. Hadden writes, “I held up my left hand and spread my fingers out in a fan and we made our fingers and thumbs touch each other. We do this because sometimes Father wants to give me a hug, but I do not like hugging people so we do this instead, and it means that he loves me” (31). His father gives Christopher the feeling of love and safety, which helps him to concentrate on his interests.
Next to his father, Siobhan is a person he trusts. She helps him to understand everything he is curious about and what confuses him. “I got Siobhan to draw lots of these faces and then write down next to them exactly what they mean” (Haddon 3).
In my opinion, Christopher is a very reliable person. He isn’t someone who does unpredictable things and always explains what he is thinking. Plus, he never leaves any details out of an explanation or thought, he makes anything clear.
Christopher is a person who doesn't fully understand the emotions of others so, when people tell him how they feel he doesn't fully understand them. Christopher has many dislikes and likes, for example: he like math and puzzles but he dislikes normal things like hugs or having chats with other people. His relationship with other people is weird. The reason for this is that he loves his dad, but doesn't really understand what he mean( like he doesn't understand what his dad is talking about) then there is Mrs Shears where we only know her for a little bit, but we do know that Christopher doesn't really see any problem with her. Christopher personality is very sporadic. He may say one thing then talk about another thing that doesn't even connect to the thing he was talking about.. For example, there's a quote that says “ I watched the sky as we drove toward the town center. It was a clear night and you could see the milky way.’ some people think the milky way is a long line of stars, but it isn't.” (Haddon 9). This quote shows how at one moment Christopher was talking about how the night was clear and how he could see the milky way but then he started to talk only about the milky way for an entire chapter. Christopher to me,with his condition,his view on the world is different so the story may not be entirely true.

Christopher Boone has a few things in his life that he enjoys. Christopher enjoys his time spent in his room in silence. Christopher dislikes many things. Some of the things he dislikes are loud noises, angry faces, and chatting because he sees it as a pointless activity. Christopher’s personality has strong defensive traits. He commonly is shying away and wincing at loud noises. He is often frightened. However, Christopher is proud to be the owner of his mind because he is very good at math and memorizing random facts. Christopher spends much of his day in his own head. Due to this, his personal relationships with his family members suffers. For example, we see in the story that his relationship with his father is severely strained after his mother left.
In the story, Christopher is the main character as well as the narrator. He is constantly showing things from his point of view. For example, when confronted by the police he says, “I do not like people shouting at me. It makes me scared that they are going to hit me or touch me and I do not know what is going to happen” (Haddon 4). This shows how Christopher is a defensive person and is often afraid. He also strives for isolation from the outside world in times of stress. Christopher explains his favorite place to go in torrid times by saying, “Sometimes when I want to be on my own I go into the airing cupboard outside the bathroom and slide in beside the boiler and pull the door closed behind me and sit there and think for hours and it makes me feel very calm” (Haddon 50). This shows Christopher needs time alone to process the world around him.
Christopher has a mild form of autism, which causes him to think, speak, and act bluntly. For example, when Christopher speaks to his father, sometimes he upsets him because of how insensitive he can come off. Because of this, Christopher and his father’s relationship is often strained. Christopher often thinks and speaks from his point of view in the story. Christopher is not a reliable narrator for a few reasons. The first reason is that Christopher has autism and this may distort his idea of reality. Secondly, Christopher is not objective because he has very little real-world experience. Overall, he is an unreliable narrator because of his mental situation.

But i got siohan to draw lots of theses faces and then writ down next to then exactly what i meant but he doesn't have it any more because he thow. He is honesty he said he knew tell a lie and he all also hate the color yellow and brown for example of this he gave a list of things that he hate brown color dirty and melissa brown not because melissa brown is brown is just because of her last name. Yellow he hates is double yellow lines and yellow fever and sweet corn because it doesn't digest.
His relationship he father is a stressful man but cares about the christopher future and for example he when to his special need school and but he his really smart at math and he is going to his school and let him to A level math ( christopher is getting a crap enough deal already, don't think without this shitting on him from a greater height as well) but is is angry at mr shears for having sex with his wife and he hates him and calls him and evil and to christopher. Christopher is also has a bad relationship with mis shears because she thing he killed her dog and also she is angry at father because his wife slept with her husband and caused the divorces.
Christopher's boone was a very complicated character and had one hell of a personality. Christopher is brilliant at geography, he knows every country in the world as well as their capitals. Christopher loves doing math its one of his strong suits he loved to use prime numbers. However, Christopher is very unaware of what other people are doing around him. Christopher is a very honest kid, no matter what he does he will not lie even if someone tries to make him.
ReplyDeleteNo because it is not possible to be a reliable narrative because there are different peoples beliefs of perspectives. I think if it was multiply people's perspectives it would become reliable. When writing these it is very hard not to be bias towards people that you are writing about. Christopher is a great kid in the story but has issues but he can overcome then.
Christopher Boone is a fifteen year old boy, who was born with Asperger's Syndrome, and due to that he has certain personality quirks, making his personality completely unique to him. Because Christophers good/ bad days are determined by how much of one color he sees, “ And I colored all the cars in with red paint making it a supper supper good day” (Haddon 27). For Christopher colors that make it a good day are red and blue, but if he sees too much yellow and brown he could shut down causing it to be a bad day. Another quirk of Christopher's is he does not like people touching him so much so that he could turn catatonic, or he could fight back and hit you. But loud noises can cause him to panic, “ I put my hand over my ears and closed my eyes and rolled forward till I was hunched up with my forehead pressed into the grass” (Haddon 4). Christopher has an affinity for math, science, and mystery novels, so much so that he has an immense number of prime numbers memorized. And one of his last personality traits is he would love to spend all day alone.
ReplyDeleteChristopher’s relationship with other people is difficult to describe because he like animals more than people. But he does have a few humans who he has connections with, like his father, his mother, and Mrs. Siobhan. Christopher's relationship with his father is his father loved him but he just gets frustrated with him. When Christopher continued investigating the dogs death after he was told not too. His Mother died recently and when he found out Christopher questioned it saying, “ Mother was only 38 years old and heart attacks usually happen to older people” (Haddon 27). Mrs Siobhan is his teacher and he trusts her, so much so that he showed her his book he was writing even after Christopher was told not to write it. I think Christopher is a reliable narrator because like he said himself he cannot tell a lie.

The word unique is the best way to describe Christopher Boone. Christopher extremely smart, especially at math and science. He provides a unique out look on life. He has little things that make him this way. For example, he determines how the day will go based on what color cars he sees on the way to school. He states, “In the bus on the way to school next morning we passed 4 red cars in a row, which meant that is was a Good Day, so I decided not to be sad about Wellington”(24). This shows Christophers uniqueness by explaining how he determines his day will go. Christopher also talks about how he hates the color yellow and brown but loves the color red, as shown in the previous quote. Finally, he states in the book, “I know the countries of the world and their capital cities and every prime number up to 7,057”(2). That is why the book’s chapters are numbered only with prime numbers. Simple things like this make up who Christopher is as a person.
Like anyone else he has things that he doesn’t like or pet peeves. He hates it when people touch him and when there is a loud noice. He is like anyone else even though he is often looked at differently because he has Asperger’s syndrome. However that is only part of him; it is not who he is. Although many people do not understand this about Christopher, Christopher continues to thrive. He has a strong sense of determination. The novel is about how Christopher goes on an journey to find out who killed Mrs. Shears’s dog. Since he can be described as unique, he can use these traits to help him solve the mystery. Along the way he might find out a few things about himself as well.
I believe that Christopher Boone is a reliable narrator for a few reasons. The novel is written as if he is speaking and telling the story. This allows us to look at the situations through Christopher’s unique out look on life. That is the main reason why I enjoy the book as much as I do. I think is it interesting to get a new perspective on a story. So far in the novel, the people Christopher has talked to haven’t treated him very nice. Because of this, it makes the story more interesting since it is shown through the eyes of they victim.

Christopher Boone is a 15 year old boy who faces the challenge of having aspergers. Christopher is someone who is very smart in the subject of math, but he is also someone who is oblivious to what is going on around him. He does not like when other people make fun of him or insult him in any way. He hates to be touched by anyone. “I do not like people shouting at me. It makes me scared that they are going to hit me or touch me and I do not know what is going to happen” (Haddon 4). Christopher is very precise in what he likes and does not like and has a very structured day. His communication with other people is strange because he doesn't understand normal communication, which makes life a lot harder. He is someone who is very shy, gives easy answers, and doesn't let anyone boss him around.
Christopher has many dislikes and likes that he expresses throughout the book. He is someone who loves dogs, hence him trying to solve the mystery in the book. He also likes prime numbers. “I think prime number are like my life. They are very logical but you could never work out the rules, even if you spent all your time thinking about them” (Haddon 12). He also has an interest in becoming an astronaut and is interested in the subject of math. Christopher dislikes lies and having the feeling of not knowing what is going on. He hates when people shout at him, it makes him feel scared. The colors of brown and yellow are also disliked by Christopher, which he does not associate himself with.
Christopher Boone is a reliable narrator. Even though Christopher may have aspergers, he is the most truthful narrator. He is someone who cannot lie, so that is an example of why he would be so reliable. He does not understand jokes, so he has no reason to lie. He is brutally honest towards the characters so it allows the reader to see the true side of Christopher.

ReplyDeleteIn the book The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, a 15 year old boy, Christopher Boone, has Aspergers Syndrome. He is intelligent, sweet and naive. Christopher is not the best at communicating and understanding other people. Instead Christopher is very logical and is superior at math and physics. “I am going to go to university and study mathematics, or physics,..., because I like mathematics and physics I’m very good at them” (Haddon 12). Christopher takes pride in in his strengths like math and physics because it’s what makes up his personality. Christopher does not trust other people, the only people he trusts is the people he is closest to. He also does not not speak to people usually unless asked a question.
I do not think Christopher is a reliable narrator because it is from his point of view. He also does have a mental disease, Aspergers Syndrome. Finally he claims he does not tell lies but that does not mean that he does not tell white lies. “A white lie is not a lie at all. It is where you tell the truth but you do not tell all of the truth” (Haddon 22). This shows that he chooses what to tell people instead of telling the complete truth, which is why he is not a reliable narrator.

Christopher is a curious boy that is trying to solve the murder of the neighbors dog. Christopher cannot determine people emotions it's very difficult for him. He is a very interesting boy that just has a little troubles here and there understanding some basic human things. Christopher can actually only identify the sad face and the happy face. This does not mean Christopher is unintelligent. He is actually a very smart boy. He can name each country in the world and their capitals. He knows all the prime numbers up until 7,057. “I do not like people shouting at me. It makes me scared that they are going to hit me or touch me and I do not know what is going to happen”(pg 4). He dislikes the raised voices that we has humans sometimes have. He is a sensitive boy. This sensitivity had bleed into his social life and how he interacts with others.
“I knew that it meant "happy," like when I'm reading about the Apollo space missions, or when I am still awake at three or four in the morning and I can walk up and down the street and pretend that I am the only person in the world”( pg 3). This show that Christopher just likes to be alone sometimes. He is an independent person that likes to read a just be at peace with himself. Christopher has trouble interacting with people due to the fact that he does not know how to read people emotions. This leads him being socially awkward and unaware of what is right and wrong to say. Christopher is a very intelligent boy. His awkwardness and not knowing of what is socially acceptable makes him a curious boy to the world.
Technically he is an unreliable source due to the fact that it is only his side of the story. If there was equal story time for both sides it will be reliable. But at the same time he is a witness of this murder so it completely depends on what the read dems reliable and unreliable.

ReplyDeleteChristopher John Francis Boone has a logical and an almost cold personality mostly because of asperger's syndrome which leads to the inability of accurately reading human emotions. Christopher likes many things including but not limited to: the color red, math, and dogs; and dislikes the color yellow, talking to strangers, anything involving human contact, and when the food on his plate touches other kinds of food on his plate. “I like dogs. You always know what a dog is thinking. It has four moods. Happy, sad, cross and concentrating”(Haddon 4). This shows that Christopher is not good at reading human emotions which would explain why he does not like talking to strangers. This also shows that Christopher is not good with relationships because he prefers dogs over people.
The only relationships Christopher really has are with his dad and Siobhan who is his in school tutor. Christopher's relationship with his dad is less than perfect, for instance whenever his dad wants to hug him all they do is touch the tips of their fingers because Christopher does not like human contact. His best relationship is with Siobhan who explains everything to him in a way he is comfortable with. “She (Siobhan) said that this was because readers cared more about people than dogs, so if a person was killed in a book, readers would want to carry on reading”(Haddon 5). This shows that Siobhan really cares about Christopher and is willing to explain everything to him in a caring way. This also shows that Christopher is a very logical person and needs everything explained to him in a logical way and he trusts Siobhan to do that.
Christopher is a reliable narrator because he explains everything as it unfolded. He does by simply stating many times throughout the book that he can not lie. He does not have the right personality to lie because he is a very logical person. He also is a reliable narrator because he describes every event in great detail.
Christopher is a very unique character who has Aspergers in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night- Time. He knows every single country in the world and their capital. He can recite each and every prime number up to 7,057, and he does not understand facial expressions. Christopher also asks too many questions at times that are inappropriate to ask. He likes the color red and believes that if you see five red cars in a row that guarantees you to have a super good day. However, if you see four yellows cars in a row that means that you will have a black day, or a bad day. “So because it was a Super Good Day I decided to walk into the park with Mrs. Alexander, even though it scared me” (Haddon 59). This quote explains how Christopher uses his super good day to his advantage by walking with Mrs. Alexander even though he is afraid to interact with people he is not familiar with. Also, Christopher can not tell lies. “I do not tell lies. Mother used to say that this was because I was a good person. But it is not because I am a good person. It is because I can’t tell lies” (Haddon 19). This quote explains that he can not tell lies. Overall, Christopher is a very smart boy that has a unique personality just like everyone else does.
ReplyDeleteChristopher is not very good at trusting people, and only has strong relationships with two people in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night- Time. Christopher and his father have a very complicated relationship because the father loves Christopher very much but has trouble showing his love. Not only does the father have issues showing his love, but Christopher is not the best at receiving love. Christopher hates being hugged. When Christopher was in jail, his father came and rescued him. When Christopher was released he walk out and “he held up his right hand and spread his fingers out in a fan and we made our fingers and thumbs touch each other” (Hadden 16). The two of them do that instead of hugging because Christopher does not like being hugged, but he wants to show his father that he loves him. The second relationship that Christopher has with another person is with Siobhan. Siobhan is Christopher’s teacher. Christopher likes Siobhan very much and he feels as though she understands him better than his father does. Together, both Siobhan and Christopher’s father make up Christopher’s support system.
I do not think that Christopher is a reliable narrator because of many reasons. One reason is that Christopher cannot tell a lie, but he is often found telling little white lies, or stretching the truth. Another is that Christopher is only 15 years old; his age makes him an unreliable source. Also, the fact that Christopher has Aspergers can affect his reliability. Lastly, Christopher only ever shares his perspective of the story, not giving much detail about others. In conclusion, Christopher is not a reliable narrator for numerous reasons.

Christopher is a 15 year old boy who suffers from aspergers. Aspergers is a form of autism, a high functioning form, this means that people like Christopher excel in certain subjects. Haddon writes, “ I like mathematics and physics and I’m very good at them” (26). As math and physics are something that Christopher believes he is good at, he also believes that this will be something that will separate himself from the rest of society, giving him the chance to go to a university or to use the two subjects in a profession that he chooses, including becoming an astronaut.

As Christopher is very good with people he knows, and people that he has able to watch, he is not good with strangers. A reason that he is not good with other people is because he has troubles reading them. Christopher states that he finds people confusing for two main reasons, he says that people do a lot of talking without using any words and that people talking using metaphors. Haddon writes , “ I think it should be called a lie because a pig is not like a day and people do not have skeletons in their cupboards” (15). Christopher knows that he has his disadvantages but he also has learned how to deal with them, this is exactly what he does with metaphors.As he is a boy who has his strengths with this disability he also has his weaknesses that he has learned to deal with.
I believe that Christopher is one that is a reliable narrator. He is unable to tell lies and is someone that has to tell and be told events straightforward, and I believe this is what makes him such a reliable narrator. The fact he tells things straightforward makes for no confusion in the book and what is happening at that moment in time. Overall Christopher is a reliable narrator who tells no lies and makes the book easy to understand.

Christopher is a very smart and curious 15 year old boy. He is not your average teenager though. Christopher is very attentive to detail yet easily gets distracted and asks a lot of questions. Christopher likes prime numbers and that is how he numbers the chapter in his book but he does not like the colors yellow and brown. Christopher does not like it when people touch him that is why his father does not hug him but shows him love by using his hands. “I find people confusing” (Haddon 14). Christopher has Asperger’s syndrome so many things that your average 15 year old does he is not able to do; for example lying is very difficult for him. He is a very smart individual but struggles to read people, which also has to do with Asperger’s syndrome.

Christopher is able to act like himself at all times with his father because he is comfortable with him. Siobhan is his go to person when he does not understand something or is questioning someone’s actions. Even though Christopher is a smart 15 year old he has a hard time keeping his thoughts and ideas to himself, which many times makes people uncomfortable. Like when he was with his father and the cop being questioned. “I didn’t say anything because this wasn’t a question. He said, did you mean to hit the policeman? I said, Yes” (Haddon 17). Sometimes Christopher does not say what other characters want him to say because he doesn’t understand that. Other than his differences, he gets along with the people closest to him.
Christopher is a reliable source because he is not able to tell lies. “I do not tell lies. Mother used to say that this was because I was a good person. But it is not because I am a good person. It is because I can’t tell lies”(Haddon 19). I believe that even though he has Asperger’s he is still able to tell right from wrong. When he describes something he gives detail and it gives the reader a better understanding of what is going on. Although he goes on ranting about random things he is still able to go back and tell us why he is a reliable source.

The narrator of; The Curious Incident of the dog in the night-time, has such uniquely brilliant skills. This brilliance is shown through his amazing mathematical skills and his like for prime numbers. He can do difficult top level math problems in his head just for his own fun. His kindness towards animals, like his own rat Toby, and other people is also something very special. He also enjoys mystery novels and detective work. He feels the mystery of Wellington is something that should be solved by Sherlock Holmes. Despite this talents and interests his relationship with others seems to be a struggle. Christopher has a disorder that affects his social skills with others. This creates his relationships with his mother, classmates and everyone else a lot more difficult than others because he does not like a lot of people. He also does not like being touched and shouted at by others. “Mother used to say that it meant Christopher was a nice name because it was a story about being kind and helpful, but I do not want my name to mean a story about being kind and helpful. I want my name to mean me” (29.10). This quote shows a glimpse of the way Christopher thinks and how he does not like words with other meaning. This also shows his individuality and how he never hides his thoughts and always speaks the truth.
ReplyDeleteChristopher's relationship with others has to meet his standards. Everything should be a certain way just like how each word should have their own meaning. Christopher wants to be very independent so that affects his relationship specifically with his father. This independence he desires causes him to rebell and lie to his father. He has no appreciation for his father or just no opinion sometimes. Christopher's mother had not been apart of Christopher’s life for two years now. Christopher was told by his father that his mother was dead. One character Christopher seems to appreciate is his teacher, Siobhan. She talks to him in a way he really understands. “And she said, "Are you telling the truth, Christopher?"And then I said, "I always tell the truth." And she said, "I know you do, Christopher. But sometimes we get sad about things and we don't like to tell other people that we are sad about them" (109.10-12). This quotation shows how she really understands his feelings and how to deal with them. All of these relationships show his standards for people compared to himself and how he likes to be treated.
All together Christopher is shown to be a reliable narrator. He is always honest with every situation and speaks his mind. What makes this book so unique is the way the story is told because of the way Christopher looks at the world. If this story was told by someone else I do not think it would be the same. I do not think his personality would shine through as much and include all of his personal thoughts. Nevertheless, Christopher does have a disorder making is more difficult to read his emotions. Even though he might be harder to real he still speaks his mind about every situation creating a very real story.

Christopher is very good at math and wants to use his math skills to help him become an astronaut. Christopher is very superstitious. He has a system for determining how his days would go. “The psychologist at school, onces asked me why, 4 red cars in a row made it a Good Day, and 3 red cars in a row made it a Quite Good Day, and 5 red cars in a row made it a Super Good Day, and why 4 yellow cars in a row made it a Black Day”(Haddon 24). He makes these decisions about the day one his was to school each morning depending on what he sees on the way there.
ReplyDeleteChristopher's relationships with other people are complicated. He can be upset easily when he is touched and he does not like being laughed at. Christopher has a mind of his own and has trouble taking orders from others. His relationship with his father especially struggles due to his inability to effectively take orders. “Talking to strangers is not something I usually do. I do not like talking to strangers” (Haddon 34). Christopher says this after he decided to disregard his father's orders and go investigate the death of Wellington anyway. Christopher does not like new people. Before he decides if someone is trustworthy he will observe the way they interact with people. This process can take up to over a week before he decides to trust them.
I think Christopher is a reliable narrator because he is clear and honest about the situations he is in. When his father tells him not to go around talking to anyone about the dog being killed, Christopher admits that he is not going to listen to his father. He decides that he is a detective and he will break his father’s rules. Christopher is gives us a glimpse into his world. Christopher is reliable because he honestly shares with us the unique ways he feels and thinks about the situations he gets put in.

He knows every single country and every capital of each country. He may be smart but when it comes to be social interactions he is not very good. Once the story beginnings Christopher meets his new favorite teacher by the name of Siobhan. Siobhan and Christopher have a brilliant encounter because Christopher opens up the slightest for Siobhan.
Christopher is so bad at picking up social cues that when Mrs. Shears is running up to him when Christopher is standing on his porch that he notices everything else about her before noticing what her facial express was. “ I looked up and saw Mrs. Shears running toward me from her patio. She was wearing pajamas and a housecoat. Her toenails were painted bright pink and she has no shoes on (Haddon 4).” Christopher does not even notice her facial expression. Christopher also hates being touched. When he was talking to the police officer the police officer puts his hand on Christopher and he says that “I didn’t like him touching me like this (Haddon 8).”
I think that Christopher can be viewed as either a reliable or an unreliable but the fight for either side is to close. Christopher can be a reliable narrator because he says that he will not lie and cannot lie. Christopher is also a unreliable narrator because he is a young kid that has Aspergers. Young kids tend to stretch the truth and that is what makes him unreliable. That is what makes me think that he is an unreliable source .
Christopher is a very interesting person, he is very good at math and he has asperger syndrome. Christopher is brilliant. He is crazy good at math, but he is clueless or unaware of things that most people couldn’t ignore. “My name is Christopher John francis Boone. His disability affects his ability to interact with people. Christopher is very good at getting to the point, he is very clear. Which is why I think that Christopher is a reliable author.
ReplyDeleteDepending on how you look at it, Christopher’s condition as having autism makes him one of the most truthful narrators. He himself cannot tell lies and has to tell the truth. His condition also makes him have a certain point of view towards his stoy.
Christopher’s personality is much different than your average persons. He is constantly questioning ideas and phrases, which seems to annoy everyone else. As we journey into Christopher’s life, we uncover his likes and dislikes. Christopher likes to count cars, and determine how his day will be based on those color cars. Christopher does not enjoy loud noises, and being yelled at, as he will break down a begin to scream. On top of being yelled at, he screams when he is touched, and does not enjoy hugs. However, Christopher is very proud of his mathematic skills, because he excels much faster than the other kids in his school. Christopher does not understand the wrong of his actions. For example, “‘I have spoken to your father and he says that you didn’t mean to hit the policeman’….’But you didn’t mean to hurt the policeman?’ ‘No. I didn’t mean to hurt the policeman.’”(Haddon 17). In this situation, Christopher realizes it is wrong to hit a policeman, but does the action anyway. Though, Christopher’s actions can interfere with his mind, his actions don’t stop his positive relationships with others.

She believes he is a good student, and in the correct state of mind. His father on the other hand, is very impatient with Christopher and is extremely angry all the time.

Christopher has a hard time talking to people that he does not know and has a hard time trusting people. One person that Christopher trusts is Siobhan, one of his teachers at school. He seems to really like her and she understands him better than his father. Siobhan drew him faces with expressions on them to help him understand people better. “I got Siobhan to draw lots of these faces and then write down next to them exactly what they meant.” (Haddon 3). She seems like she is going to be similar to a mother figure to him.
I think that Christopher is a reliable narrator because he genuinely wants to find out what happened to the dog. He may be young, but I think his curiosity and intelligence make up for it. The story is told through his perspective and tells his thoughts on situations. He says that he cannot tell a lie, so all information that comes directly from Christopher must be true.
In the book The Curious Incident with the Dog in the Night-time, we learn about a character named Christopher Boone. Christopher isn’t like your average kid. Throughout the story we learn about how Christopher struggles with behavioral issues and how that affects him throughout his everyday life. One of the challenges of his condition is that he can’t be touched without freaking out. “The policeman took hold of my arm and lifted me onto my feet. I didn’t like him touching me like this. And this is when I hit him” (Haddon, 8). This shows how introverted he is and how he hates human interaction. He also has trouble detecting human emotion. And he expresses how much he hates the color yellow. However, there are some unique traits that come from Christopher's condition. For example, he knows all of the countries and capitals of the world and he can count by prime numbers up to 7,057. Christopher only has 2 people that he trusts. He has his father, who is mostly angry all of the time due to the dead dog. He also has Siobhan, who is a teacher that he feels very connected to because she knows how to communicate with him.

But it is not because I am a good person. It is because I can’t tell lies” (Haddon, 19). This proves that he stands by everything he writes and that he is not making anything up. He even points out how he speaks is abnormal but he still knows what he means when he writes.
Christopher Boone is quite unique; Although he has Asperger's syndrome he is quite knowledgeable, and a logical thinker. He likes numbers, the color red, playing on his computer, and many other things. He is the only kid in his school to ever take a A level math class, and is seemingly well versed in many other subjects at school. He always works to impress others and tries his hardest to get others to like him. in spite of this, he becomes aggressive when he is touched, and hates yellow and brown, and when his food touches different food on the plate. Christopher is also unable to interpret emotion, facial expressions are all a blur for him, which makes it hard for him to be a social person.
ReplyDeleteMany people think of Christopher as hard to deal with, his neighbors have a tendency not to want to deal with Christopher. Christopher often receives the cold shoulder, receiving blunt replies, or even being cussed away. Since this book was written by Christopher, and he never omitted any of these things, I feel as if Christopher is a reliable narrator for that reason and many others. While he doesn't ever describe other people, he never lies, and never omits something he can observe, which increases the validity of his narrating. Christopher digs and digs into detail, like when he goes looking for his book, he remembers everything that is under his fathers bed, which is extremely advantageous, and a perspective we do not really get to see.
Christopher Boone is quite unique; Although he has Asperger's syndrome he is quite knowledgeable, and a logical thinker. He likes numbers, the color red, playing on his computer, and many other things. He is the only kid in his school to ever take a A level math class, and is seemingly well versed in many other subjects at school. He always works to impress others and tries his hardest to get others to like him. in spite of this, he becomes aggressive when he is touched, and hates yellow and brown, and when his food touches different food on the plate. Christopher is also unable to interpret emotion, facial expressions are all a blur for him, which makes it hard for him to be a social person.
ReplyDeleteMany people think of Christopher as hard to deal with, his neighbors have a tendency not to want to deal with Christopher. Christopher often receives the cold shoulder, receiving blunt replies, or even being cussed away. Since this book was written by Christopher, and he never omitted any of these things, I feel as if Christopher is a reliable narrator for that reason and many others. While he doesn't ever describe other people, he never lies, and never omits something he can observe, which increases the validity of his narrating. Christopher digs and digs into detail, like when he goes looking for his book, he remembers everything that is under his fathers bed, which is extremely advantageous, and a perspective we do not really get to see.
Christopher Boone is a one of a kind kid he may have Aspergers syndrome but he is a very smart kid. For example he knows every prime number up to 7,057. Most kids can not do that this just shows how intelligent he really is. All though his Aspergers challenges him socially it allows him to excel in his mental ability when it comes to other thing. He states in the book “My name is Christopher John francis Boone. I know all the countries of the world and their capital cities and every prime number up to 7,507(3.1)”. this quote shows that he is a very smart kid but he has to overcome many challenges is his life.
ReplyDeleteWhen I say he has difficulties socially there are many examples such as one time he was talking to a police officer and when the officer put his hands on Christopher he said “I didn’t like him touching me like this (Haddon 8).”
Christopher is a reliable narrator because he is a very logical young man. He never lies and he always tells the truth. His Aspergers also makes haik a very different author which creates a different view point on the story he is telling which makes the book easier ti understand.

Christopher’s personality is quite distinguished. Christopher is a 15 year 3 month and 2 days old boy who does not like to lie and tries his best to keep promises. Capitals, prime numbers, dogs, policeman, hospitals, and quiet spaces are some of his favorite things. Being touched by others, shouting, talking to strangers, people talking too fast, and the colors yellow and brown are some of the things he dislikes. Throughout the book so far, we have heard his voice reveal his personality type of bluntness. We can see Christopher’s personality through quotes such as, “Mother died two weeks later” (Haddon 26) and “Jason at school smells because his family is poor” (Haddon 38). When Christopher talks about his mom’s death, he only talks about the facts. Similarly, Christopher is not trying to be rude when he is talking about Jason from school, but rather he is stated why Jason smells. Christopher does not sugar-coat anything; if he has something he needs to say, he will say it plainly. Because he says whatever he pleases, this affects the relationship he has with others.
Christopher’s relationship with the other characters varies depending on how they interact. Father and Christopher’s relationship is a very patient and loving one. “Christopher, you have to stay out of trouble, OK?” (Haddon 20). This quote that father says shows how much he cares and loves Christopher. The “OK” part was father’s way of patiently waiting for Christopher’s answer. Siobhan acts as a friend and mentor. “And she said, ‘Are you telling the truth, Christopher?’” (Haddon 75). From this quote, in the context of the conversation, we can tell how much she cares about him. Siobhan is making sure he is not sad. Mrs. Shears and Christopher have a bit of a complex relationship. After finding Christopher with her bloody dog, she becomes very cold towards him. “She didn’t answer my question. She just said, ‘Goodbye, Christopher,’ and closed the door” (Haddon 30). Mrs. Shears did not even bother answering him. However, we, as readers, know Christopher is not phased by how others act towards him because of the first person point of view.
Because this novel is written in first person point of view, we can tell Christopher is an unreliable narrator. Everything in this book is how he perceives things, making it bias. If Christopher were to not like someone, we would only hear the bad things about said person. Since the novel is only from his perspective, we do not obtain any information from inside the other character’s lives. If we were to have more inside knowledge to their brains, maybe some of the things the characters said would be explained, and we would understand why they are the way they are. For those reasons, Christopher is an unreliable narrator.
