  2. Our Road

    Our road ran straight (Metaphor)
With no one to slow us down
We put the pedal down and ran
    Through the night

No speed limits slowed us down
As we tore through the country
    Screaming and laughing
Though I could not see how she was thinking
I put the pedal down harder, faster
feeling no curve for miles (metaphor)

Like a ghost it appeared before me
    The curve was sharp
No brakes would slow us down
We could not make the turn
    We plowed into the ditch
With a branch lodged in my heart, (Metaphor)
While she walked off without a scratch

We would never drive together again
Down that road and though sometimes
My heart hurts to see other cars journey
    On the same road

Maybe one day I will learn
    To drive again and maybe
    I will make that turn

  4. My Fire

I was the fire and you were the tender (Metaphor)
You built me up with your love
So you would be warm and comfortable

I burned bright for you with my love (Consonance)
Keeping you warm through the dark
and the cold of the world

When you needed my fire you came to me
Until you felt you needed more warmth
You left me for a bigger and brighter flame

Never once did you try to build me up
    Keeping you warmer
Making me burn brighter for the
    World to see

My flame snuffed out by the cold
    of your night
    Even though after you left
My embers burned red for you still (Personification)

  7. A Broken Home

The awakening of the sun came in a sudden burst
With the new day approached a different tune and time,
The big bang stopped bothering the neighbors long ago (onomatopoeia)
Like the bits and pieces that cut her feet

As the sounds of her shouts came to a still, (alliteration)
The hearts that were once one shattered to two
And the once lively house stood silent again (personification)

  8. Shattered

My life is a broken window, (Metaphor)
I know there’s something left for me
But I can’t make up what it is
Because I know we are meant to be

    I regret the wasted time
    When you were mine
An eye blink and you were gone
    Quick

Do you remember all the things we wanted,
And all the memories we haunted?

    We floated like a river,
You brought sweet to the bitter

And now I am standing here
In a silent sea slipping out my eyes (Alliteration)

    I am drowning,
    Weak and wretched
Holding onto the feeling you left behind

    I am Rose
    And you are Jack
    A story like Titanic (Simile)
    Losing all I cared about

I love you enough to let you go
And I promise I will do better
Because you taught me that I matter

And I realized at the end,
While sadness is my friend (Personification)
that every person we care about
Is just another loss somewhere down the road

  9. TOXIC

    Love is a poison, (simile)

It strikes silently, slowly, and swiftly. (alliteration)
It moves its way through the body,

It takes you by surprise (personification)
    It goes for the heart
    Strikes the strong
    Helps the weak

    But in the end
    It overwhelms you,
Some bring it to their grave
    Others move on.

  10. The Absolute Abyss

Love is like a dark hallway, (simile)
    Stumbling through it

    The silence is deafening,
    The darkness is frightening

    You muster through it,
At last (assonance & consonance) you find the end of the hallway
    You find a door,
The slightest sliver (alliteration) of light is there
    You reach for the doorknob….

  12. Hearing Music

Note after note, the melody plays

  18. Controller

Addicted to a game that I don’t want to play
Breaking bones will do, but my heart is what pays
I think I will win even though you won’t stay
I know I should quit but without you I’m grey (metaphor)

You end up on top, leaving me in the dust
There’s nothing to do but feel blue and go rust (metaphor)
I should not be played out of spite or of lust
You win this round but next time, I must

Feelings feel right even tho they’re so wrong
These games that you play aren’t some silly love songs
I know pressing pause would not take me too long
But stopping right now, where would I belong

Your heart seems to be as dark as the night (simile)
Crack goes my heart, should've put up a fight (onomatopoeia)
This level is wrong but what can be right
Just forfeit this round, turn it off, say goodnight

She is nothing short of magnificent,
With her hair blowing in the wind,

Nothing of great magnitude could ever split us up.

Her face when she looks at me,
Pitter patter pitter patter, my heart goes (consonance),
Her smile bright enough for anybody else to look away,
Missing out on the beauty that is presented before them.

She’s as friendly as a innocent child (simile),
Tendencies pulling me away from her,
Reminding me of my insecurities and doubts,
And what could've been a marvellous gathering.

    Make some changes to her

  52. Smooth Sailing

    Sailing freely on open water
    The happiness is infinite
It runs smoothly as it should, day after day

    One thing breaks, easily fixed
    A second, soon follows
As the boat ages more things fail
    Catastrophe strikes

    The boat capsizes
    Trapped as water replaces air
Sinking slowly into the abyss of the ocean
